Gunnison, CO -- Western New Mexico's two-game winning streak ended Thursday night in Gunnison as the Lady Mustangs fell to Western State 81-61 in RMAC basketball action. The loss moved Western State to 10-10, 8-4 (RMAC) while the Mustangs slipped to 5-13, 5-8.

The Mountaineers controlled the game throughout, with WNMU's last lead coming at the 13:38 mark in the first half.

In a statistical rarity, the Mustangs lost a game that saw them shoot better than 60 percent from the field. Unfortunately, WNMU was out-rebounded 27-19 and turned the ball over 11 more times than Western State. The Mountaineer also had a good night at the charity stripe, converting on 27-of-33 attempts compared to WNMU's 9-of-15.

Crystal Smith led WNMU in scoring with 15 points, while Tannessia Manley chipped in 12 and Ashley Vigil chipped in 10.

Western State was led by Taryn Brennan's 24-point output.

The Mustangs will return to Silver before heading out for another road trip next week at Mesa State and Fort Lewis.
